The beginning to this story is not a pretty one. It is not the start
you would hope for, for any animal. These baby skunks were relocated
six times in the first 2 1/2 months of their lives. Sometimes their
accommodations were cramped and sometimes they were spacious. They had
their diet changed several times, and sometimes went hungry due to
poor conditions. They also spent quite a bit of their early life
traveling by plane, red school bus, van, and car. Environmental
stability, something vital to a young skunk's beginning, was
drastically missing.
Meraculously, the Philadelphia rescue skunks made it through their
early trials with flying colors. Remarkably, none ever tried to bite
us despite nail clipping, baths, medicine, and playtime. They all
socialized very well with each other too, sleeping and playing
together as if they were very good friends.
Because the circumstances surrounding this rescue were quite
complicated, federal and state officials watched this rescue
with great scrutiny. Questions surrounding these animals origin
caused the officials to doubt whether they could be left alive. OOPS
working with the Philadelphia Zoo convinced the officials to
spare these skunk's lives based on a few stipulations. Mainly,
these skunks would have to leave the state of Pennsylvania and
do it as soon as possible.
These very lucky skunks are now residing in families across the
United States. Thanks again to all who offered their homes.
